Community Ownership

It has been great to see the community at the Go Center grow. It is wonderful to see people involved in all aspects of the Go Center: playing, building, teaching, and welcoming.

The region of Vineland, where the Go Center is located, is part of an estate owned by BamBam Sachertorte and Zarf Vantongerloo. They pay the bills to Linden Lab for the land.

While they are happy to support the Go Center, it is clear that only through wider community support will the Go Center be able to evolve and grow, eventually expanding into additional regions. Having community members own land here is one of the best ways to guarantee the long term success of the Go Center.

Shares

The region is divided into ten shares. Each share supports a tenth of the region. A portion of the share is used for the Go Center, and rest is a parcel for the use of the shareholder:

This set balances the interests of the Go Center, the Community and the community members that choose to support it this way.

Cost

When you buy a share, the price is negotiated between buyer and seller. The initial offering price is:

Owning a share includes an obligation to pay a monthly fee to the estate owners. It is this fee that covers the maintenance costs for the region.

When compared against other 6,554 sq. m. plots both on the Mainland and on other estates, these numbers are quite reasonable. For this money a community member gets 4,096 sq. m. of usable land, and supports the Go Center with the rest.

Note: L$ rates are based on the current LindeX exchange rates, and fluctuate as the market does.

Notes

BamBam Sachertorte and Zarf Vantongerloo will continue to own the region, and take responsibility to pay the maintence fees.

Land ownership is covered by a covenant that ensures reasonable and fair use of these shares. The shareholder parcel land does not need to be used for Go related purposes, but it must be consistent with sharing a region devoted to Go. Please see the covenant for details and examples.
